€129,00Mirror Sculpture “Unique” Nove x Juliana Maurer
Our surrounding reflects on the image we have about us. It defines the idea of ourselves in our heads. Mirrors allow us to look at our exterior.
According to the sociologist Lisa McIntyre, the concept of the looking-glass self expresses the tendency for one to understand oneself through the perception which others may hold of them. Essentially, how one views oneself and acts heavily depends on what the individual believes other people think of the individual. Therefore identity, or self, is the result of learning to see ourselves through what we perceive to be the perceptions of others. That is why it is so important who we are surrounded by.
Nove and Juliana Maurer both explore shapes and how they evolve with time. The soft, organic shapes of the ceramic form the base of a solid mirror. The color range references different skin tones. This collaboration resulted in a standing mirror sculpture with a round mirror glass and a ceramic base.
Juliana Maurer is a multidisciplinary artist researching nature and various materials like glass or ceramics. The main sources of her inspiration are contrasts of aggregate states and the revelation of surprising material effects.
